While I think I may not be old enough, or have reached a point of experience in my own life and career yet to say I'm in a position to truly "pass the torch" yet, I still want to take this time to introduce you to a promising young pianist that astonished me when I first met him - his name is William Schwartzman (@williamschwartzman), who just recently turned 18. Back in October 2022, Will told me he would be in Tokyo visiting with his family in the next month, so I immediately took the opportunity to bring him to a studio to jam and make some YouTube videos (which turned into this audio collection). What happened, to me, was the beginning of what I know is the blossoming genius of this young pianist. In today's seemingly endless sea of technically gifted carbon copies, or the reluctance to be anything but "correct", Will stands out as someone who will have one of the next truly original voices in the future of jazz. When I met him at the Vail Jazz workshop, I knew it right away. Will SINGS on the piano with an eager fervor to take on the world with this artistry. It's extremely inspiring.

One of my absolute favourite albums of all time, incredible interpretation and musicianship throughout. Patrick Bartley's playing on Team Galactic HQ is phenomenal, but the power and energy of the Spear Pillar Suite remains my favourite.
